"Because Mackenzie... We'll never be a thing. It's never going to happen."

I'm hurt by his sudden words and I take a step back. He lets out a small laugh which takes me by surprise.

"You'd be stupid if you ever thought that we ever had a chance. Open your eyes Mackenzie. We're two different people."

"Well.. You don't have to be a jerk about it."

I look to the left of me & there he is - Nate, laying down with his elbow propped up supporting him while he watches Rank- *1 #share

He smirks, "I told you it was" and I realize that I really like this side of him. Yesterday when we were playing games and the conversation would drift to family, he would tense up and change the subject, but right now, in this moment, He seems so carefree, not like a boy who's clearly getting over something in his past. He looks at me weirdly, but still smiling "what?" I shrug "nothing, I just like your smile" I tell him and then turn back to my food.
