Escaping Breath

"Sometimes I forget what it means to breathe,
is it the act of inhaling a breath
or is it realizing when it's time to let it go.
Let it go,
only to have to grasp at another inhale again.
And then,
I'm trapped,
in this repetitive cycle
where breathing wants to become
an option rather than a need.

I'm breathing,
actually breathing,
all while feeling like I never took a breath."
