Quebec internally screamed as he shook hands with the American nation in front of him. He smiled widely and tried to hide his rising panic. He could feel Ontario's eyes burn into the back of his head, trying to figure out why he was freaking out.
Breathe in, breathe out.
"I'm Jacques, by the way. Jacques Durand." He let go of the other's hand, the nation's hand and fought to keep the relaxed grin on his face.
The nation's eyes twinkled and he laughed. "Hiya Jacques, I'm Alfred! Alfred F. Jones! Nice to meet you!"
Quebec felt his stomach sink and contract as America stood there and laughed, unaware that he was close to one of the world's most closeted secrets.
Quebec bit his tongue and let the sharp pain keep him from screaming aloud. Instead, he replied back, "Nice to meet you too."

He had left his stuff behind due to an emergency back at his home, and so; the remaining nations were appalled at finding something that he'd been writing in. And unfortunately, curiosity killed the cat. Many of the others began to read the pages, which led them all to realize that Alfred was a whole lot different than what they'd thought he'd be, for being the personification of the United States. Several twists and turns begin to crumble, as a hidden secret between Arthur, Matthew, and Alfred comes to light. While Matthew descends into mental chaos- the rest of the nations manage to take back the journal, only to find out some horrible secrets the American has about them. No Ships! i do be cringing at this very hard but I'll keep it up for y'all. note that the quality is very questionable and like most people i've reflected on the cringiness <3 The Ancients saw many of their children and grandchildren suffering alone, no one noticing the other's pain. The fake mask, the 'happy' countries wore. The secrets they all hid. The Ancients couldn't let this just happen, they came up with a plan. America was the unfortunate victim and test subject. America is the happy, joyful, always smiling, and loud country, but what if everything they know about him is a lie? A mask no one could see through. The mask no one tried to look through. There was a lot they didn't know about him. A lot he hid from them. A lot he kept inside his cracking heart. Secrets will be spilled, and skeletons will come out of the closet. {STORY DISCONTINUED and I'm probably never gonna finish it whoops} The world is ending, obviously. America never really paid attention to the news, only Good Morning America, of course, but when the flooding and crippling storms started in the south and worked their way to D.C., he got nervous. There were warnings, scientists predicted the amount of blah, blah, science, science, random crap, big words. . . World catastrophe. The Storm. Bunkers and shelters were built, supplies were stocked, factories and farmers worked around the clock before the Storm could hit them. One might think the United States was prepping for war, and in a way, they were. They had to fight for their lives. Alfred is alone in a bunker, panicking for his people and brothers and the rest of the countries like Japan and Germany. He hears a distant muffled sound above the howling winds, a frightened little boy sits in the corner with an old stuffed bunny sucking his thumb. No one notices him. How is America supposed to protect hundreds of people and himself against a storm that could kill people in a number of ways? And now a kid had moved him to become his caretaker. When Alfred became independent from England, France had muttered to him that he didn't know the pain of raising a child then losing it. But know, he assumes that he may just learn.
