The year is 3052, also known as 784 AE (After Earth) the human race is now spread across two galaxies, Imraia and Xed, which are unnaturally close together. They coexist with another humanoid species - Xedans, who share too much genetic material with humans to be unrelated entirely. They are able to conceive with each other, although fertility is low, and the child is sterile except in very rare cases. Technology is about 700 years behind what you might expect, partially due to the relentless war between the two galaxies, which has torn the few systems and planets between them to shreds. However, when Jay, a scavenger from the area between these galaxies, called The Midden, forms a spontaneous relationship with Alex, the son of an Imraian commander, the true evils that lie in Imraia are revealed, and they begin to seek an end to the ceaseless war.
