Chantal Stevens, a middle school English teacher, gave up everything and moved to Wilson to start a new life. Prior to arriving, she had heard nothing but horror stories about the impoverished city and its "delinquent" youth. However, one young girl, Dominique, catches her attention and she finds herself wanting to help her in any way possible, even in spite of protests from others.

Dominique Taylor lives with her single mother and eight other younger siblings. Though she has always had the ambition to go to college and then becoming a lawyer, her dreams are shattered by the harsh face of reality. With Ms. Stevens' help and support, she overcomes the obstacles that get in the way.

This is a story about meeting unexpected people who might affect you in a deep, meaningful way that could change your life forever.
