The apocalypse ended 100 years ago, little did Leo know another one was just beginning. 
A war has been raging for 30 years between the north and south. It's all anyone has ever known. The south, Shiera believes in equality and freedom but has little money. The north has a strict caste system and women are not equal in society, they're all rich.
Leo was born in the north, treated like a son for her first 8 years then sent away, suddenly, to a boarding school. There she is close to the border and the last forest on earth where she meets her best friend, Julian. He is from the country of the free. She then takes refuge in the other country when she can. Little did she know that the war was about to end and the country of the free would loose.
