The first man she ever loved  broke her heart in a way that her sadness turned to anger so she left the academy with a hearbroken Lissa, who also could stand the pain Christian had  inflicted on her when he said she has feeling for Dimitri. So they ran away once more with no intention of returning to the place that gave them nothing but pain .So they left with nothing but eachother to care for but destiny had something else in store for them.
