It's the summer of 1860 and 17 year old Celeste Foy is forced to stay at her Grandfather's plantation while feuds are settled back at her home in Pennsylvania. While many of the town's suitors try to win her heart, she begins to fall for her Grandfather's charming apprentice, Benjamin Shaw. But when their neighbor's daughter, who is the same age as Celeste, is murdered the town points fingers at the family's slave Isaac, whom Celeste and Benjamin became close to.
