This is the journal of Darren Stratt, an "imperfect" who is being hunted in America due to a new law which has stripped disadvantaged individuals--now called "imperfects"--of their rights. In Darren's journal, he documents the horrors of a world run by an all-powerful government that helps itself by pretending to care about the greater good.

In Part 1 (April-June, 2066), the Perfect America Bill is signed into law for the first time. The effects are instantaneous; armed men and women are breaking down doors, killing and capturing so-called imperfects, gunning down anyone who stands in their way, and (worst of all) enjoying every second of it.

Darren is currently hiding in a bunker beneath his house, but it won't stay safe for long. Soon, he'll need to start thinking of a new safe point.

"There are two things that separate us, perfection and imperfection..." What if a tribe was run by perfection? Where failure is no option. That one mistake could end a life. Positions are won by strengths and there are no such things as flaws. Take every mistake, tripping, falling, failing, and erase it all. In this world, there's perfection. Nothing bad ever happens - after all, perfection means flawless. Being perfect is the only way to live and falling short of that expectation is unforgivable. That is Citrus' world. There's no betrayal, no heartache, no mistakes, no sickness, no deaths, and no unnecessary battles that force her to choose sides. All that's waiting for her is the bright sun, shining its golden beams onto her. Home to all perfect cats: the Tribe of Shining Suns. A shining, dark world where the perfect roam. But what happens to those who don't shine? As long as there is a sun, there are always shadows. Citrus has always thought of herself as a proud cat and wrinkles her nose at the sound of Imperfects; cats that suffer and starve in the shadows. Those cats stumble and fail yet try to spread their seeds in fresh soil, lingering around the world like an ongoing sickness. These disgraceful beings continue to rise no matter how much the sun burns them, stirring chaos in her perfect world. Like any infection, she knows her life will be better when the disgusting ticks are out of her fur. All she has to do is slaughter her way through in order to achieve perfection, but fighting this disease may risk her own life and worst of all - imperfection. When Arden stumbles across a half-conscious, bloodied girl at his local train station, he doesn't know what to think. But once she tells him what happened to her, he gains a whole new perception of his world. Arden lives in pretty much the perfect setting. His family loves him, his future job is tailored to suit his talents, and he has a promising future with his girlfriend. He never intended for things to unravel when he finds a half-conscious girl in a pool of blood stowed away on a cargo train -- he just wanted to help her. But once she wakes up, he gets a lot more than he bargained for. She tells him a story of risk-taking, of discoveries. Of adventure, hope, and sadness. She seems to have more questions than answers. Answers he can't give her. But there's one thing Arden does realize: His superiors are hiding things from him. Things that could be their downfall. nor·mal /ˈnôrməl/ adjective conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected. Copyright © 2020 by @mel10rism This is the sequel to "The Differents".
