If you like Divergent, you'll love this story! This story takes place far in the future, after a horrible plague and a bad war. Everything is known as destroyed... except for Chicago. Lily Freedom's parents were ranked 6. The lowest you could be ranked is -1, which means you'll have a terrible life pretty much. 10 is the highest you can be ranked. Rank 10 is amazing. If your ranked 10, your rich and life is great. The last thing you want to be besides -1 is Unvit. If your Unvit your practically dead...unless you run or hide from the government. To make sure you ranking is correct, you have to take a test. That's when a lot of the Unvits are killed, because the test detects that their Unvit. Will Lily and her brother pass the test? I register the popping sounds as gunshots. Immediately my brain thinks 'War'. All of a sudden it feels like someone is tightening their hands around my throat and I can't breath. I clutch my chest and try to take deep breaths, but I can't breathe. I feel my mums hand on my back and I realise I've slowed down a bit. I forget about what's going on around me and I just push forward, as fast as my legs will carry me. War has broken out in Maddy Richard's city of Chicago. She has to prove to herself that she can survive without having to rely on someone else. As she ventures through the city, she has to face things that she has never encountered before. Holding a gun is one thing she had never done before. Just looking at one she felt like she could hurt someone. Killing someone is another thing she had never done...
