It's been 6 years since Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston's deaths, and Ponyboy Curtis as well as Cherry Valance are struggling to cope with their losses. Cherry, who works at a night club in Manhattan, New York, invites the Curtis brothers as well as Steve and Two-Bit to come visit her new home. Sodapop felt disconnected and almost sick all of the time and was very tired of being a middleman to his brothers all the time. Ponyboy was struggling with his sexual orientation and was scared what others would say when he realised he had fallen in love with, not even a girl, but Johnny Cade.
