Janna Smith is a normal seventeen-year-old girl, dealing with the normal problems that an apocalyptic society provides: Oppression, ridiculous laws, limited friends, and an annoying little brother who seems to always be going stir-crazy. All of these are normal for her, and she doesn't mind being treated like livestock so long as her family is safe. Of course, that can't be possible for long in a world where the undead have such power over the living.
When her father -- the last parent that she has left -- is ripped away in a brutal incident of 'friendly fire' while defending what is left inside the stronghold, she and her brother, who will no longer speak to anyone, are forced to live with her best friend and crush, Casey Micheals.
In a world where even the discussion of conspiracies is one of the worst offenses, what lengths will Janna go to to discover the truth about the creatures that have them at the end of their rope?

During the event, something unimaginably horrifying occurs. All of a sudden, she witnesses people getting eaten and torn apart by 'sick' deranged people. The entire school campus is turned to bloodshed. A switch goes off in her head when she sees the chaos unfold, there is only one thought that enters her mind. And that is to protect her little brother Zane no matter what....
