"Let me be," she whispered.

There was tears running down her face. One by one, they toppled over each other. 

"You don't understand."

The girl stammered, holding back her next thought. She winced, choking slightly on her tears, before releasing it from her lips.

"You never will understand."

Elliot took a step back, brushing slightly into the tall ferns behind him. The girl sobbed now. Her hair flying wildly in the wind before settling on her wet face. It didn't move again.

He took another step back.

He saw her now. It wasn't any girl. This was his Sophie. This was the girl he loved...

And the girl he was about to lose.
