Mathieu, the Magna-suer of Sabath, knows that the King's son, Pr'mo, is not the true heir. He believes in the prophecy of the cerulean scrolls. But he is not about to pursue it with Sabath's enemy, B'rde, waiting and ready to pounce at the first sign of weakness.

But then Pr'mo defects to B'rde, the King has been attacked, and Sabath is suddenly left with no heir.

Plucked from obscurity to become the heir to a dying king, Mactan is Sabath's last hope. A secret daughter: King Quatre's bastard daughter. A last deterrent before a succession crisis would once again tear the kingdom apart. But before she could even be named an heir she must pass the dreaded Nito et Regis Magni, the killer of princes. Now, Sabath's future lies in a girl. A girl they did not even know existed. A girl with no training. A girl with eyes that are almost black.
