The story begins with Kousuke, a Samurai warlord's eldest son, as he desperately looks for his way home in the darkness with only the light of the moon to guide him. A sudden storm hits and he is forced to take shelter in an abandoned shed.  After stumbling into the shed he finds a little girl who is evidently lost and sick. Once the storm dies down he takes her home with him and vows to take care of. He names her Tsukika Mei. This is the tale of them growing up and falling in love.
