In the fourth chapter of 'Darkness before the Dawn: A Poetic Journey' the Author comes to the end of his strength to hold on. All he wants to do is let go, but he fears the unknown. What will happen if he loses strength and breaks under the pressure of carrying his grief around his neck like a millstone?


In 'Forgive Me, Father,' Charles begins questioning the future, expecting there to be none for him in the land of the living. He asks himself if there is an afterlife, and if there was would he find himself at the Pearly Gates of heaven or the crimson gates of hell, would he see his loved ones again, or would he be locked in an eternal battle with the angel of death over the soul he lost on his way to the other side...

Metanote: Suicide, suicidal thoughts, and the lack of consideration for suicide (usually by people joking about it) has been detrimental in my life, and it's taken away a lot of the spirit in me. This story is not meant to glorify suicide, but rather, to show the constant pain that it can leave people with. I am not saying that those who committed suicide are somehow "evil," but I am saying that there are real-world consequences for those who are left behind. Once you see Charles's story, you will understand what I mean.
