The first thing Kelsey Clarke realized was that she would have them on forever. 'Them' being, of course, a pair of braces on Kelsey's slightly crooked teeth which, honestly, would not match any of Kelsey's designer shoes or handbags. What a fashion disaster. Sixteen year olds should not have to go through this bull. Spoiled brat? Meh. Braces? Ugh. One excruciatingly painful aspect is missing, though. Where can Kelsey find an orthodontist? Especially considering that a zombie apocalypse has just begun.

Punk rock band Mutilated Arteries has been seventeen-year-old Becca's world (aka obsession) for the last year. When the band schedules a concert in her hometown, she and her best friend Carli are the first ones in line to buy tickets. Zel's life has never gone to plan. She had to have a boyfriend that cheated on her because of "family" issues. She had to make sure that she was well-groomed and hold her mouth when someone says something inconsiderate. She has to have stupid nightmares that always went the same and gave her nightmares. But, when her "boyfriend" tells her that they have to leave and go to a different pack, she wonders if she could get some answers there. Not all is what it seems with the pack that they are in, and she couldn't help but wonder if it all has to do with the nightmares she is getting.

The zombie apocalypse started in April. Hannah couldn't fathom how she was able to remember something so irrelevant, although when she has over a year of isolation from any other living human being it's startling as to how much detail and information one person can manage to reminisce. She was 15 years old when it began. Now, she was turning 17 and nothing had gotten better. If anything, everything had become harder. Human extinction was inevitable and the probability of surviving wasn't just slightly possible, it was impossible. Especially when she's alone.
