Madeleine Fletcher was a piano player. In hindsight, the title seemed to betray everything that she had done to gain it. Her spot at Briar Ridge Academy was something she had worked the entire seventeen years of her life for. Madeleine's whole life had consisted of working as hard as possible to pass the auditions life had thrown at her. It meant missing out on birthday parties, social events, even her own birthday dinners. She worked until her fingers bled and then worked some more.
She'd primed herself to be the accompanying factor to the main show but never the main show.
In stark contrast to her was Shawn Mendes, the boy who seemed to have it all. He breezed through his years at the Academy, never having to work hard for what he wanted.

At least, that's what Madeleine thought.

When Madeleine and Shawn are inevitably paired to be each other's partners for a dance class, secrets begin to emerge as they both realise how badly they'd misjudged each other.
