After major coastal cities sink to the bottom of the ocean at the end of the twenty-first century, the richest inhabitants of Earth escape the planet to build new colonies in a distant solar system. Thirty six light years away from the Milky Way galaxy, centuries have passed and humanity is well established. Among the most notable establishments is a prestigious university for the study of alien biology. Moira, a girl with a pervasive developmental disorder, but a talented student nonetheless, navigates the challenge of interplanetary university life as she researches a rare and endangered species. It went on so long... So agonizingly long. They tried to hide... to run... anything to stay alive... I remember their cries: "What's going on?" "Why is this happening?" "What are those things?" Senseless slaughter, that's all it really was. They killed everyone. Drones, humans. guilty, innocent, it didn't matter. All that death... it didn't fix anything. And then, once it was all over, they dragged those corpses down below where they'd never be found. Entire planets... Multiple. All extinguished of their population. All the drones and all the humans, even plant and animal life was purged. None were safe. And after the slaughter, they... ate them... to stay alive. To fulfill the twisted vision of their "creator". Zombies were said to be impossible, that they'd never happen, well obviously whoever said that had underestimated human curiosity. It started with the melting of the Poles, which uncovered diseases that hadn't been seen in millennia. Obviously, when a flesh-eating parasitical virus was found, scientists in all their glory decided to study it, which led to the greatest calamity in human history. Warning: This is the original book 1, it is now considered more of a prelude/building character relationships arc than a book. This provides backstory and sets the foundation for the characters and their relationships.
