Dio was a frustrated man with problems in trust and friendship. He was narcissistic, cruel, a vampire that everyone hated yet no one dared to pick up a fight with him. The warm sun wasn't a problem to him anymore, he managed to overcome the problem of turning into ashes when the sun rised. He felt alone. Miserable. In the end he is just a broken man afraid of getting hurt.
