La noche es lluviosa y la densa niebla traída desde la costa dificulta la visibilidad para cualquier persona. Pasos agitados resuenan por las callejuelas vacías de la ciudad; una mujer castaña con ojos grises corre asustada por los callejones de la ciudad, los faros apenas si iluminan sus pasos y su vestido mojado se le enreda en los tobillos logrando tirarla, la sangre brota de sus rodillas pero eso no le impide correr... Huir. Gritos masculinos detrás de ella la alarman, logra levantarse. 
Las mascarás de Arlequines, Colombinas y Pierrots están por todos lados. No es de extrañar ya que esa noche se celebra el festival veneciano. 
La mujer aterrada entra a un callejón oscuro, que lleva hasta el faro de la ciudad. Espera poder encontrarse con su amante y advertirle de la tragedia.
