This book is placed in 1999. The main character, Felix Tucker, is an eighteen-year-old boy who struggles with being a homosexual. Along his journey as a senior in high school, Felix loses part of his identity as his mother and father got divorced and separated, leaving Felix and his father in a tight situation; barely enough money to scrape by. Within the society that these people live in, it is separated by rich and poor; clean and filthy; heterosexual and homosexual, the latter three being frowned upon. Felix, who had previously been well off, popular, and financed soon became the opposite, losing hope in who he had become, gaining personal insecurities. The boy who had once been blonde had dyed his hair pitch black, the stark color bringing out the paleness of his skin and the icy blue of his eyes. He assumed that none of his friends wanted to be friends with him anymore, considering he was on the opposite side of it all. As Felix pushes his friends away, he realizes that he began to catch feelings for his previous best friend, Royce Skine, one of the most attractive and well-known students at his school. With his tawny skin and forest green eyes, his striking features, and perfect smile, Felix was bound to fall for him, as most of his peers also happened to fall into the boy's trap. Royce was not just an acquaintance of Felix's, not just a friend, but his absolute best friend. The friend he spent all of his days with and shared everything with. They had been oh so close... Felix had managed to tear apart the friendship by jumping to the conclusion that Royce no longer wanted to be his friend due to the family matters that had occurred. What Felix did not realize was that Royce felt the opposite; wanting to stay Felix's friend and be an even better friend than before, but when Felix pushed him away, he had no choice but to respect his decision. - - - Started book: May 7, 2018 Finished book: [...]
