The idea of being sent to a 'straight camp' for the entire summer sounded absurd. Nothing about it made the slightest bit of sense to me. And it looked like any other summer camp; a bunch of uncomfortable-looking teenagers standing with one or both of their parents, people I assumed were in charge talking to them. My parents wouldn't let me say anything as they willingly handed over my information to the stranger in a blue shirt. They promised me I would thank them, told me I would be grateful once the summer was over. I never would have thought for a second that they would have been right, but it turns out, this was exactly what not only I needed, but what everyone involved needed. Hi, I'm Wallace. A little bit about myself, I'm sixteen, seventeen next March. I'm transgender, so my gender and sex don't align. that's a pretty minute detail in my life, though. I'm an aspiring screenplay writer, work at our local 50's diner, Sally's, and have a group of great friends. I also happen to be living mostly out of my car. It's okay though, it's a pretty good life. No school, I was expelled. My brother stays with me a lot. Life is good. The title New Names is inspired by the identity struggle some trans kids go through, especially if they're in an unsafe environment. Toby/Tubbo, better know as Alesha by the people around him, was put into the foster system when he was fourteen after a tragic incident in his family when he was eleven. His home, which was located on the more dangerous side of town, was robbed, resulting in his parents death, and the kidnapping of him and his sister, Lani. Lani was killed next to him just a few weeks later. Tubbo was eleven when he was taken, and fourteen when he was rescued and put until the system. He bounced from home to home for some months for either "being to quiet" or "not being able to take a joke," when the joke caused him a panic attack from his two years of trauma. Other homes just didn't want to take on the trouble of caring for a traumatized kid once they found out how "hard" it was. One day, when Tubbo is put in a home with a family of four, the dad of the other three and one of the kids, who is Tubbo's age, take a strong liking to Tubbo, who they thinks his name is Alesha and is a girl. Y/N is a young, 16 year old kid. Their parents never got along very well, and Y/N would tune into Twitch streams or watch YouTube videos of their favorite MCYTs to drown out their parents fights, or to just pass the time. Y/N absolutely adored the Dream SMP and it's lore more than anything. However, Y/N was in a car accident with their parents, which resulted in their death, and Y/N's broken leg. Y/N was put into a foster system and bounced many homes within just a year. 27 homes to be exact. When Y/N was put into the foster system, their phone was shut off as nobody was able to pay for it anymore. This resulted in Y/N not being able to watch their comfort streamers anymore, which led Y/N into a depression-like state. Y/N's comfort streamers were the reason why Y/N hadn't took their own life. The people Y/N enjoyed watching the most was some people named Dream, Ranboo, Phil, Technoblade, and Wilbur Soot. Technoblade or Ranboo was probably their all-time favorite though. After all of this time, Y/N has mostly forgotten what all of the MCYTs look like, sound like, and even their names. One day, when Y/N is back in the place where all the kids wait to he fostered or adopted, two men walk in looking for a kid. No specific gender, race, or body type. Just a good kid. Y/N figures they're a lost cause since the staff kept telling the men how much of a 'rebellious little brat' they were, but then the men started talking with Y/N.
