Bianca de Medici, the illegitimate daughter of Cosimo de Medici, was sent to the French court at the age of 7 to live under the protection of Queen Catherine de Medici. Raised as a companion to the Valois children, she quickly became entangled in the intricate world of politics, power, and loyalty at the French court. Nine years later, Bianca's friendship with the Dauphin, Francis, evolves into something far deeper-a love neither of them can deny. But duty and politics stand in their way. Francis is promised to Mary, Queen of Scots, in a union meant to secure the future of France, while Bianca is reminded of her place as an outsider in the royal world. The forces of courtly intrigue, familial expectations, and the ambitions of others conspire to keep them apart. As Bianca faces the painful reality of being torn from the man she loves, she must also grapple with the knowledge that Francis will soon marry another. Francis, too, is caught between his duty to the crown and his desire for Bianca, knowing that his heart belongs to her alone. Amid the glittering halls of the French court and the shadowy corridors of secret power, Bianca and Francis must decide whether their love is strong enough to defy the world-or if it will be consumed by the war between their hearts. Will they find a way to rewrite their destinies, or will their forbidden love lead to their downfall?
