Because of Adrien's unfortunate mutations, his Father had limited his contact with the outside world for most of his life. His father claimed it was for his protection. The one thing that allowed him to escape was the miraculous ring that appeared shortly after his mother's disappearance, along with a magical Kwami named Plagg. Together they allowed him to transform into a superhero, named Chat Noir. His superhero form hid his identity from the notorious supervillain Hawk Moth and his overprotective father. With the means to escape his father's protective prison, he began exploring the city.

Most importantly, Adrien defended Paris from Hawk Moth's Akuma attacks with Ladybug, another Parisian who was looking to escape her dull life. Adrien constantly begged his father to allow him to attend public school and after months of training to protect his secret in public, his father reluctantly agreed. When Adrien discovers Ladybug is one of his new classmates, he decides to do everything in his power to get closer to her. He hopes one day Marinette will entrust him with her secret.
