As the man reached his arm out to Ivory, she recoiled. The man narrowed his eyes at her and growled once more, frustrated by the fear her eyes held.

"You are..." The man began, softly touching Ivory's red curls as she looked at him with frightened green eyes.

"Profligatus." And with that, Ivory and Celeste disappeared.

Well, they didn't exactly disappear, as they merely teleported thirty feet backwards and were now under a shield of invisibility. The distance between them made Ivory and Celeste feel safe, although they knew they needed to get going before the spell eventually wore off.

As quietly as they could, the two girls started on the way back to Ivory's cottage to relay the details to her family. Just before fully exiting the meadow, Ivory turned around and gave the man one final glance.

From a distance, she could see him mouth a word but it didn't register until later that night.
