PTSD is a terrifying thing to live with. A kind heart tainted with fear, that slowly evolves into insanity. Pain, drained out by "thrill". Distraction, always running away. Tic, after Tic. How could one deal with it? You're right, no one could. Instead you drown all of it out with a "simple" hobby. All of that devastation, fear, sorrow. It is forgotten with countless skewers to the skin.

And it just so happens that to survive, they'll have to enter the human mind, they'll have to invade the world of imagination, but what horrors must await them in such a place, depraved of reason and logic, perverted by man's desires and sick mind.
