Rose Laurens is de dochter van een gouverneur die over de hele wereld bekend staat omdat hij ook het leger beleid van een land wie besluit op een avond op een schip te gaan kijken. Dit komt doordat Rose erg nieuwsgierig is en haar vader altijd heeft gezegd dat het gevaarlijk was. Wat ze niet weet is dat het schip bij piraten hoort die een stapje verder zijn gegaan dan zee veroveringen. Ze meren 's nachts aan om dorpen en steden te overvallen en plunderen. Haar leven verandert compleet als ze 's nachts onverwachts terug komen naar het schip met z'n allen en zij zo snel mogelijk moet zorgen dat ze zich verstopt heeft.
