(Based on "Enemies" from my one-shot book) "Can you stop following me?" he asked sternly, his voice barely penetrating the fog that had taken up the entirety of my brain. Pretty much all that I gathered from his speech was that the voice that came from him was far deeper than I initially remembered. "I..." was all I could say, and I wanted to hit myself. "Look, I appreciate what you did, but please just stop it," Cole said. The threat in his voice was more than obvious. The lights flickered again. "Can you stop making lights do that?" His eyes widened momentarily before he narrowed them again. "Leave me alone." And, with that, he turned and continued walking. "I'm just trying to-" "I don't care about what you're trying to do, dude," he spat, whipping around. "Just stay away from me. I don't need any more problems for myself." I stood there, stupefied, as he walked away from me. Once he disappeared around the corner, the lights steadied. A part of me told me to keep an eye on him, but even I didn't understand why I was acting like this. I didn't know him, and I moved so I could get in less trouble. But Jay was completely unfazed. He smiled slightly, leaning down closer to Tao. "I don't care how fucked up in the head you think you are," Jay mumbled. "That look on your face every time I touch you? I want that to be mine forever." There's a darkness in everyone. Some is worse than others. While for most, high school is a time to discover who you are, Tao has something else in mind. He knows who he is, and he wants to find an outlet for his dark desires. And Jay, the friendly and outgoing ball of light in everybody's lives? He's the last person who should be enabling an outcast loner like Tao. He has a bright future and abundant friends, things Tao never had and doesn't want. Yet the unlikely pair find a solace in each other, and both Tao and Jay find out just how dark it can get when you find someone who will be on your side no matter what.
