"Finding happiness is like a needle in a haystack. That doesn't change the fact that the needle is still there. It's just up to you to put in the work and find it." His hand slid over mine and in his grasp, he gently closed my hand into a fist, "and when you do, never let it go." When life handed Hayley Peterson lemons, she threw them away. It had nothing to do with whether she liked them or not. It was solely because they were rotten the moment they fell into her hands. At the age of sixteen, one is expected to be as normal as any ordinary teenager. Enjoying life, living to the fullest whilst making many memories and mistakes along the way. But for Hayley, her life was anything but ordinary. Being young, funny and beautiful never once made up for the angry demons lurking beneath Hayley's skin. Demons who persistently dragged her through the mud of depression, anger, anxiety, and loneliness. She may be in constant mental torment unable to find happiness where she hoped to, but happiness comes in many forms, places and people like Parker Nguyen, the guy who not only observed those in dire need of happiness but willingly gave to others what he barely had for himself. When life shoves the two into the other's open arms, they both make it their duty to somehow build a wall of happiness around their inner turmoils. A girl who experienced nothing but pain and regret in her early childhood and a boy who sought out to fix damaged people when he was damaged himself. Will Parker and Hayley be able to help one another in ways others have failed to and confront their demons head-on? Or will they both succumb to a future of never-ending darkness? As time ticks by, Hayley documents the passing days of her life, hoping that the people she loves would understand the thoughts that never made it past her lips.
