Death of a Librarian

In La Vatican, there is no religion, free will, or individuality; it is considered a crime to appreciate tales and creations from the old world.

Vying to learn the history of her world, Chiara Caldara takes advantage of her position in the capital library by reading unauthorized text that could get her killed. Her superiors insist these books of past days are works of fiction simply meant to distort the minds of young girls - but she sees something else.

Unlike those surrounding her, she views the old text as an art form, something to be admired, pondered, and discussed amongst scholars. She knows, in her little oppressed heart, that there is knowledge in the stories, fiction or not. After 5 years spent pondering the weight of the truth in these books, it suddenly becomes all too real for Chiara.

A man approaches her, claiming to be an ancient god over a thousand years old. Thanatos wants her to help him convince the other gods that the mortal "realm" is not one worth abandoning.
As their understanding of each other grows, so does Chiara's understanding of herself.

Thanatos teaches her how to tame that fire in her soul and introduces her to the true beauty of the world.

Now chiara must decide if she is willing to risk her life to introduce this beauty to the rest of her world.
