Jonah is a bit more geeky, weak and unattractive than the average man. He is the genius of the tenth grade, or any grade for that matter. He attemps to become "popular" like everyone else, though nothing ever turns out as planned. Basically the guy has the stereotypical life of a nerd, the teasing from other students included. Most would call his lifestyle boring and uninteresting. But the story becomes reeling when Jonah is aware that his so called "enemy" becomes not only a friend, but a crush.

Toni is a girl. Yep. That's all anyone needs to know. Her man-like voice or pulled back, scrunched up bun doesn't show a trace of femininity. She's never wanted for her obnoxious loud tone or unappealing appearance. Also she tends to abuse Jonah in a go-lucky, joking matter. Yet it  occurs to her that after a while, his personality has turned greatly towards her.
