Following the events of a civil war in Heaven, a supervirus known to the mortals as the “Croatoan virus” is released onto earth. Sam and Dean are left to scramble around, saving the people they love from flesh eating "Croats". Together they form a small compound called Chitaqua in Kansas City.  Castiel is reunited with them after he lost his wings, accompanied by his two faithful brothers, Gabriel and Balthazar. 

Months later, Sam goes on a mission, but things go awry and he is stranded in the woods battling Croats and a unbeknownst to him, a possible darker force. Dean and Castiel form a search party to go find the missing brother, but soon they discover their feelings for one another is too hard to keep hidden.
