Alec looked forward at the woman he was marrying but she wasn't what caught his eye, instead it was his sister, Isabelle, standing behind his bride with a saddened look in her eyes, she seen him looking and she smiled lightly, trying to convince him that everything was alright. He looked back at his bride, Lydia Branwell was stunning in her gold dress, even Alec could admit that. Although he knows he doesn't love Lydia, he knows that this; standing in front of her, holding his hand out to her, and preparing to be runed was the right and honorable thing to do.
He watched, as Lydia picked up the stele and touched it to the ancient wedding crystal. Steam, or what looked like steam, rose from the crystal and Lydia brought the stele to Alec and let it hover above his wrist. She looked up at him, he seen in her light blue eyes that she had doubts. He nodded his head to reassure her, so lightly that it was barely noticeable and Lydia let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She put the stele to Alec's wrist, he felt the familiar burning from the stele that he has learned to bare. The burning stopped and Alec looked down at his wrist where the finished rune was placed.

The Angel Raziel punished Clary for creating another rune after she was forbidden to do so. In order to kill her brother, Jonathan, and save the world from his wrath, she had to create a rune. The punishment was that she would lose all her memories of the Shadow World, of her family and friends, but most of all, of her Jace. When she said goodbye to her brother in Toronto and laid him to rest, her first rune disappears, her angelic rune. She does not tell anyone because it is Alec's wedding and she does not want to ruin it. At the reception, Jace takes Clary to the dance floor and starts with a speech that sounds like he is ready to propose to Clary, so she interrupts him by telling him how much she loves him, and after she passionately kisses him, says she needs to get air and leaves him standing on the dance floor. Jace stands there looking at her, feeling that something is off with Clary, and says "I love you too." after her. He decides to look in their room for her and finds a letter telling him of the punishment that the angels gave her, and that she would no longer have her memories of him, but that she would always love him. He falls to the floor and screams out because he has lost her again. He vows that he will love her from afar and will always protect her. What happens when and If Clary regains her memories?
