The bright red for sale sign in Grandpa Olson's yard should have told Stella everything. She refused to believe it until her parents started packing up their things and tossing them into a moving van.
"You'll meet new friends, and the school there ain't that bad!" Her father assured Stella, she promptly stormed into her room and slammed the door.
How could her parents just up root her whole life and drag her to some crummy town in Oklahoma? Their family had lived on this ranch for generations! Grandpa had only just died, but they didn't seem to care. Yesterday had marked the end of school and summer break, her parents said that meant she'd make friends before going to school. But Stella thought differently, it meant spending the summer locked up in her room.
"Make sure to write lots and visit whenever you can!" Martha said giving her a tight before they climbed onto the bus. Yet no matter how much she pleaded her parents would not let her stay.
"I'll go to a boarding school! I could stay at Martha's just please don't make me go to Tulsa!" She had begged trying her best to sway them. Yet her parents were as unmoving as bricks and angrily told her no.
Now Stella Ashwood was on her way to Tulsa, Oklahoma in her father's old green pickup. A leather bound book clutched in her hand, and a sour look on her face.
"I'll never like it there!"
