Four freshmen's paths cross when student, Marie Dawson, mysteriously disappears in the Michigan small town of Idalin, Clearwater. Together this unexpected grouping try to unearth the dark secrets of the innocent town.

Monte despises the Michigan small town at first after moving from scorching Arizona. She searches out answers for why the unexpected move, but soon her attention turns to what the whole town seems to be talking about- the vanishing of Marie Dawson.
Meanwhile her brother, Benjamin, knowing why they moved unexpectedly to Idalin, deals with this unhappy remembrance. He is brought into the case of the missing girl when he sees the tragic effects it has not only the dispirited girl at his new school, but the whole community.
Aubrey feels the compressing guilt of her treatment to her old friend, Marie, after her disappearance. She decides she owns it to her to find her- even if it means sacrificing her own reputation.
William's life is shattered after a tragic experience, but it only gets much worst when his only sliver of hope is stripped from him; Marie Dawson. Now he will do everything in his will to find who's responsible. Relating to the common interest of Dawson's vanishing he is reluctantly pulled into this strange grouping.
