Damian Swift looked at the worn map in his hands that was given to him by his mother, before she died two years ago. He walked over to the window and gazed at his demolished surroundings. He had always hated living in Bodie, which had been destroyed in the war that took place 10 years ago. But because he had no-one left, he felt abandoned, and alone. But one day, he saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of Catherine Parker, someone from his past he thought he would never see again... Would you risk everything for the one you love?

- - - - It had been merely a year, since the occurrence of that one tragic incident. Yet in spite of it all, Damian could still remember what had happened, as if it were only yesterday. The loud, ear-piercing screeches of the speeding vehicle's tires, as the clearly manic driver attempted to swerve. His panicked efforts were in vain, however, which was made all too clear by the sudden thud, when the car finally came to a sudden stop... Damian's heart was in his mouth, his body rooted to the spot, frozen in utter fear. He could hardly believe what he had just witnessed, yet why couldn't he move..? His head was spinning, his stomach felt sick to its pit and any words he tried to shout out, were just falling flat before they even left his drying throat. With the ice-cold, drenching raindrops falling mercilessly from the pitch-black skies; the only thing lighting his surroundings, were the lights of the still open shops around him. All Damian could think about from that moment, was whether or not the young child would make it through. From what he could just about see, her injuries were nearing on fatal. He could only look on, as the passers by showed no signs of panic, whatsoever... - - - - Credit to Hannah-stock on deviantArt, for providing the stock image I used for the cover.
