The North Night War

Born in exile, Daniel has never seen the North Kingdom and is certain he never wants to. Convinced the predominantly white nation would reject a black King, just as they'd rejected his father, Daniel seethes over the loss of his birthright but makes himself content with low paying jobs and a low profile existence in New York City.

His compassion is stirred by the arrival of a young woman from the North Kingdom who bets her life on him and insists he must return with her to protect his people and lead them in the fight against the Nights, invaders who attack each winter in the darkness. The attacks are brutal this year, far worse than the Kingdom has ever endured before and she represents a faction in the Kingdom who believe only the true King can end the war.

But Noah--the blond, blue eyed King currently occupying the throne--won't step aside so easily. His grandfather may have been a usurper, but it's his Kingdom now.

With a dying young woman in his care and a tag along friend from New York at his side, Daniel journeys north to the hidden Gates of the North Kingdom with a secret agenda of his own and it doesn't involve setting foot in the land of his fathers.
