[ Inspired by Race To The Edge - Season 6: Episode 10 (Darkest Night) ]
In some other universe out there, Hiccup never succeeded in taking down the Night Fury.
He never met his best friend, he never passed Dragon Training, and he never killed the Red Death. Three years later, his father gives him an ultimatum - kill a dragon, or relinquish his title as heir to the tribe.
With the Night Fury roaming the island, on the hunt for the Whispering Death, Hiccup is given one last chance to change the fate of his village, as well as find an unbreakable bond he doesn't realise he's been yearning for.

I begun writing this years ago after the final season of Race to the Edge aired and for years I have been dying to finish it 😭 I really wanted to see how the events of Darkest Night would have gone down if it'd been given time to be more than a small "what if" scenario in a 23 minute Netflix episode. I won't follow everything that happened in the episode exactly, but I will pull heavy inspiration from it.

Night Rider - A httyd and Hiccstrid book. -Astrid's pov- 8 years. That's how long it has been. 8 lonely, cold, devastating years of my life that I will never get back. Every night I dream the same dream - every night the same day returns to haunt me over and over. That day dramatically changed my life for the worst. Why did that day happen? Everyone learnt to leave me in peace in the morning. Everyone knew my deepest, darkest secret that changed people's opinions of me forever. Everyone knew my arch enemy, but only 2 people know why he is my arch enemy. My friends still talk to me, just not in the same way as they used to - it's almost as if they are scared of me, or don't want to be associated with me. One day I want this to change. One day I want my life to turn around. One day I will truely be me again. One day I will be happy. One day I will be free. I cannot see that day in the forseeable future, but I know it will come, and I know somehow it is connected to my enemy. *I know that it is an over-used story line but I tried to spice it up a little. Kinda like how you may always eat a Chicken Masala and then you try a Vindaloo - they're both food and both curries but one is different from the other* There are extra chapters at the end containing side-stories of this book. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III a teenage Viking who earn the ranks to kill his first ever Dragon in Dragon Training. He could not kill it, he wouldn't kill it knowing himself having one of them as his own, never the less, he was afraid of losing his only best friend, Toothless. He would never trust and look at him the same way. So he decided to take matters into his on hands by running away or flying away from berk, not the best move but knowing he was know as the village runt or the Chief's screwup and would always get beat up for no valid reasons by his cousin and his friends, sure he pass every training with a prefect score but he still did not get the respect that he deserve from the villagers. If he so tried to convince them. No one would listen to him. Not even his own father. But he wasn't running away with just Toothless but with Astrid as well. After their romantic flied which also change her view on dragons, and their discovery of the red death, Hiccup was still planning to run away even though he have just finally friended an actual human, he decided to tell her so he don't have to let her worry about him leaving without a word in the next day. When he finish telling her his plan and surprisingly to hiccup and even Toothless she beg to come with and she also told him her reason. Turns out Astrid Hofferson was abused and pressured by her own family. She have enough of it, Hiccup didn't really have yes as his first nor second choice but she beg him until he gave up and let her tag along. What would happen to them?, will this new path that choose was path to a bright future?,will something spark between them? (Obviously). What would the village have to say about this?
