When you kill yourself before you enter the hunger games, there are consequences. That's what district twelve learned the hard way. When the 74th hunger games came around, the consequences were obvious; there were to be three tributes that year to make up for the deceased female the year before. When Gale was reaped third, it's clear it will be a game to remember. If one makes it out alive, who's it going to be? This is the new Hunger games. Disclaimer: I do not own Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy, or any of the characters, but simply wrote a fanfiction about it. Thank you for reading!

Authors Note: I tried to make this story as book accurate as possible, but of course with their being a new leading character added, the story will not follow it directly. I did this on purpose. There are also head canons in this because of another character. Most important, this is a lesbian based fan fiction. When I was eleven. My whole world changed. Katniss' dad died in a mining accident. You think it wouldn't affect me but I loved him just as much as Katniss did. Maybe even more than I loved my own father. I felt bad, that my own dad couldn't compare to Katniss'. He loved me too though. Loved me like his own. The day he died was the first in a long line of times I have ever seen Katniss cry. She never cried before then but she cried a lot after. Katniss' mother was suppose to get a job after his passing, she didn't. They were starving, dying. I decided to help. After school I would drag Katniss into the woods by her feet. We'd never gone in there without her father. It seemed like a scarier place without him. After some time it wasn't so scary. I don't know what made me volunteer for Katniss. When I heard her name echo throughout the crowd my heart stopped. It wasn't my name, but it was my best friends. There was no way she could survive in there. She had a family, a sister to take care of. I thought my parents could live without me. The name Effie called next was the only name I prayed and prayed I would never hear her say. Peeta Mellark.
