When the athletic, adventurous Avalyn-Raine Harris meets the enduring Kaiden Alexander in biology she instantaneously falls for his sweet, sensitive charm. Little does she know, Kaiden was born with one kidney. Though his family was told that he was going to live a great, long life as long as his remaining kidney doesn't malfunction. But after he is diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 17 his future is uncertain.

Not wanting any pity or sympathy, Kaiden decided against telling his friends about his last-failing kidney and his much-needed surgery. After finally getting a kidney available he heads overseas, though his friends and Avalyn-Raine don't know about his whereabouts and their intentions. Though this happens after Ava forms a more-than-friends relationship with the lovable Kaiden.

Though Kaiden sends letters stating he's on holidays. Though Avalyn-Raine eventually uncovers the truth and with the help of her friends she sets out to be with her affectionate, kind-hearted companion and to declare her undeniable love for him.
