--- Excerpt from the book ---
It was warm. Very warm. Like a shaft of light on a lazy Sunday embracing my protruding stomach. But the sky was grey and the seagulls were calling in that grey sea, though it was all still very bright for my small, small eyes.

My mother, an arrogant dog, held her snout high as my brothers and sisters' little ones prodded her side with muted cries. I didn't.

Her eyes were glazed, and her paws moved no longer. Only seconds ago, she had whimpered with great pain. Flies were nudging her too now. I think they also wanted milk. I know my mother was dreaming. I wouldn't blame her; I was not warm anymore.
