It's been many centuries since the Second Supernatural War, since then, werewolves have been unable to communicate with their inner wolf. So much time has passed that the thought of such a thing is nothing more than a dream told in legends and myths.
In this world where Weres are more of wereshifters than werewolves, two girls are on the run from the infamous West Clan. Katie is a Female Alpha only told in legends, and Rose is her best friend; unfortunately, fate has them unintentionally trespassing their former pack's archenemy's territory, the East Clan's land.
Katie isn't sure if it's a blessing or a curse that it just so happens their mates are in the enemy pack. What will she do now? Continue running to her intended destination, or stay to fulfill her duty as a mate with who she's destined with?

"What a day..." I say wearily.
Rose giggles at me. "What a day indeed. We met our mates!"
I can only chuckle, but it's dead and doesn't have any emotion in it.
I close my eyes and I see the burning red orbs pulling me in, daring me. I don't know what exactly, but it's there and it's burning my soul. And a part of me actually wants to burn. Like a moth drawn to the flame.
"Katie!"
My eyes snap open and I'm staring at the worried dark blue eyes.
I smile at Rose waiting for me to tell what's on my mind.
"I'm fine," I reassure her.
That's right. I can't burn in those intoxicating red pools, because I'm already droning in the deep blue.
Rose doesn't look convinced so I add, "Really, I am. I'm just shocked about the whole mate thing."
I half-tune out Rose as she goes on about our mates and whatever else she's talking about to figure out what's next.
I don't close my eyes this time, because I don't want to see the truth. The reality seems good enough at the moment.
"Mate..." I say to myself, low enough that not even Rose hears it.
He's my mate.

I jumped to my feet and punched him in the side. There was hardly an effect. "You're weak" he spat, walking a step closer towards me. I growled as I had had it with this blood sucking devil! He was beautiful with his gleaming coat and strong legs. The black wolf left Liam on the ground and fiercely killed all of Liam's minions easily. He wasn't finished with his prowl, he turned back to face Liam but realized that the pureblooded vampire had already run off. Then I hear a deep growl.
