Ariel is a young girl living in the city of Riemont where having spirit companions is outlawed. When a child reaches 13 years of age they have to preform a task in front of the government officials. If the task is failed the children are sent back to their families but if the task is completed they will be killed. Ariel had just reached 13 and the time for her ceremony came.. She is able to complete said task and the government officials leap towards her in an effort to get rid of her. But the young girl is not alone and is saved along side another kid who she doesn't know the name of. He's quiet and hasn't spoken a word to her the whole time..

This story follows the journey of Ariel as she bonds with her companion and meets other runaways such as herself. What happens when she joins a rebel grop in an effort to show the people that they weren't evil? After all they are still humans..the only difference is that they have a little luck on their side

I am a Rebel, they say. They're right. It all started when I was a young girl, my parents died in a fire, started by the King of our land. I was only 6 years of age, and I was left with a burn tracing up my arm and onto my collarbone. I was taken in by a woman I called 'Stepmother'. The King's actions caused my life, he's caused so much death. At least half the village has suffered because of him. I now fight against the King, and his daughter, I'm now a leader. There are so many others whom he has wronged. We used to be small group, but now we've grown in numbers. Millicent (though we call her Maleficent on accident) the Dragon Sorceress, Peter Pan the boy who can fly, Killian Hook the Pirate, Red Riding Hood the Wolf Slayer and Animal Tamer, Hansel and Gretel the Witch Hunters, Rumplestiltskin the Wizard, Blue the Fairy, Maethranal the Elven Queen, Jack the Giant Killer, Gothel the Witch, Merida the Archer, and Banshee, are the original people in our group who aren't dead. Gothel was being hunted by Hansel and Gretel at the time I met all three of them. Merida was adopted by Maethranal and trained as an Elven archer. Blue and Banshee are related by blood. Peter and Killian were enemies, but then banded together to stop Rumpelstiltskin, who later agreed to work with me. I love them like family, especially since my seven friends were killed. I miss them so much. They were my first friends, and helped me start this... rebel group. My husband contributed just as much as they did, and had the same fate. Eight people dead in one tiny little raid. I killed my stepmother, and use her riches to buy weapons for us all.
