This story is based on Yowamushi Pedal written and illustrated by Wataru Watanabe, a Japanese mangaka. The story revolves around Maki Aria (real name is Makishima Aria), a young prodigy who've won a lot of road racing competition all over the world including the Tour de France junior division 3 consecutive years and participated in some other Grand Tours. Because of an accident in a race in Netherlands, she is forced to take a rest from the tours and races until she recovers.

In order for her to recover faster she decided to go to Japan and at the same time continue high school in Sohoku High School where his brother, Makishima Yusuke previously attended. There she will encounter life changing events as she become one of the school's managers and helps her friends for being a 2 year consecutive champions in the 42nd Summer Inter-High Tournament held at Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture.

This story is all about friendship, hardship, bicycle, competition, rivalry, action, school, races, and  slice of life with some romance to spice it up a bit.
