15 Year Old Alex Mandela has had the life she's gotten used to forcibly taken away from her. Her family, gone. Her old home, gone. The high school she went to, gone.
An outbreak has occurred of a disease involving fungus and spores has broken out into the public and infected over 75% of the worlds population. Everyone calls the people afflicted with the disease "the infected" and that's all they've ever been known as.
Alex must learn to survive in this new world with only her own wits, and her best friend Samantha Teller, or Sammy as Alex calls her.
