Since 1950, we have mass produced over 8.3 billion metric tons, most of which have ended up in our oceans. There is a floating garbage island named "Great Pacific Garbage Patch." There's also a second covering about one million square miles, its larger than the state of Texas. More than 180 species of animals have been documented to ingest plastic, including, birds, fish, turtles, and marine mammals. Plastic has infected our health and endangers the length of time our planet has to live.
