Trent is bitter, clingy, and severely addicted to diet cola. Like many teenagers, he's had his head and heart beaten to a pulp with a sledgehammer. It's a miracle he hasn't turned to snorting coke in the school parking lot. The only thing that still screams "personality" are the occasional dark and inappropriate comments that slip from time to time.

Astren City, and all surrounding area, have the highest crime rate in the northern part of the country. The main character fell for a popular boy in their high school. For multiple months, the main character has been hiding themselves from this boy, Tal, because they've been scared of what Tal may think of them. After a while of waiting and hiding, Tal finally notices the main character and automatically falls in love with them; they had love at first sight. Slowly this major change affected the main character, their everyday life, and experiences they haven't had before. Their friends leave them and the main character is left with Tal and a few of his friends.
