Fun fact: Demons have "soulmates". Only, they don't call them soulmates. They call them Mates.

Why is this? Because demons don't have a soul. But when they find their Mate the two beings combine together, so they both have souls. 

But in some cases a demon has a human Mate. In these cases an exchange is made: the demon will get half of the human's soul making the demon became half-human, and the human will become half-demon. This will bond them forever, meaning if one of them dies so does the other.
