The Test was designed to decide where the citizens of the Great City live: the luxurious Innercity, the agricultural Middlecity, or the polluted Outercity.
Growing up in the Innercity, Cassandra has always pictured herself at the top. The top of her class, the top of her peers, and soon, the top of the Innercity. It also helps that her mother is the Test Administrator. But to secure the life she has always wanted, she must pass, no, dominate the Test.
When the Test doesn't go as planned, Cassandra must choose between her friendships, battle invisible forces, and survive the life the Test had given her.
Because the Test can't be wrong. Right?

When Evita starts asking questions Evelyn Sheer, the head of the city's Department of Energy, takes her captive and places her in a secret, underground research facility. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. Evita isn't ready to leave.Complete

But she's not the only one, there are nine others supposed to be besides her; two of which never made it past their mother's womb and one who's incompatible. What makes them special, is also what makes them dangerous. Ripped from their normal, day-to-day,school life, family and friends with no warning, they find out who they are. And why they're alive. But fitting back into that normal life they missed so much is proving to be hard. Especially for Maya, who has a tendency to get herself in trouble and extraordinary situations ENTIRELY her fault. (She'd rather die than admit that of course) Old life brings the problem of boys, unwanted advances, homework, teachers and of course, a boyfriend with she had a rather uncharacteristic meet-up. Scott, Sed, Andy are her childhood friends all the way with her in this. Almost all the way. They didn't expect her to change or to come back at all and they are having a HARD time adjusting to the new Maya. She's dangerous, she's hot and she knows it. She has done a lot in the past two years that will catch up to her and stuff after that which refuses to stay hidden.
